Corporate Giving - Foundation Contribution Guidelines Goodrich Corporation Foundation Contribution Guidelines History and Purpose The Goodrich Corporation Foundation was formed in 1988. The Foundation's principal was established through a contribution by Goodrich Corporation. The Foundation provides support to charitable organizations serving the needs of the public in Goodrich Corporation's United States headquarters and plant communities, to selected educational institutions, and to selected national groups. General Information The Foundation makes charitable grants in four categories: Education; Arts and Culture; Civic and Community; Health and Human Services/United Way. Charitable contributions are made only to organizations defined as "tax exempt" under Section 501 (c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation will generally allocate its annual charitable giving according to the following percentages:
Preference shall be accorded requests for projects or programs in areas having a significant number of employees, employees serving on boards of charitable organizations or other noticeable Goodrich Corporation presence. For a list of Goodrich locations, visit our locations page. Education The Foundation will give priority to operating grants focused in the following areas: 1. Higher Education The Foundation will support selected educational institutions where the company recruits for its workforce or where technical research is conducted. In addition, grant making will also focus on institutions with specific academic areas of science and engineering that educate the technical workforce. 2. Elementary/Secondary Education (K-12) The Foundation will consider proposals designed to restructure the educational system to better educate all students. The Foundation intends to support efforts that take a comprehensive approach to education reform rather than addressing issues on a piecemeal basis. The Foundation also gives consideration to proposals designed to help elementary school children maintain their curiosity and excitement about the worlds of math and science. This would include opportunities for professional development in math and science for elementary-level teachers. The Foundation also will give consideration to proposals that help junior high and high school students and teachers understand the relevance of math and science to society. The Foundation, therefore, is supportive of efforts to link math and science taught in classrooms to application of these disciplines in the work place. 3. Adult Education The Foundation is supportive of programs that promote adult education and welfare-to-work training and education. These programs may be supported through community colleges or civic, community and human services organizations. 4. The Foundation supports educational institutions with matching funds under the company's Partners in Giving Program. Arts and Culture The Foundation will provide both capital and operating grants to art and cultural organizations in communities where Goodrich employees live and work. Examples of support would include support for orchestras, ballets, special exhibitions and sponsorship of concerts. The Foundation supports art and cultural organizations with matching funds under the company's Partners in Giving Program. Civic and Community The Goodrich Corporation Foundation will support the improvement of, or the economic environment of, communities in which Goodrich employees live and work. Examples of support would include projects and programs that strive to preserve or enhance the historic or economic development of communities and the economic vitality of a region. Health and Human Services/United Way The Goodrich Corporation Foundation will support capital requests for hospitals and specialized health care providers. The Goodrich Corporation Foundation will support United Way campaigns in communities where its employees live and work. The Foundation generally will not provide additional funding to United Way organizations already receiving support through United Way funding. Grant Guidelines The Goodrich Corporation Foundation generally will not support: Multi-year grants in excess of five (5) years. Individuals, private foundations, endowments, churches or religious programs, fraternal, social, labor or veterans' organizations. Grants to groups with unusually high fund raising or administrative expenses. Political parties, candidates or lobbying activities. Travel funds for tours, exhibitions or trips by individuals or special interest groups. Organizations that discriminate because of race, color, religion, national origin or any areas covered by any applicable federal, state or local laws. Local athletic or sports programs or equipment, courtesy advertising benefits, raffle tickets and other fund raising events involving purchasing of tables, tickets or advertisements. Organizations that receive sizable portions of their support through municipal, county, state or federal dollars. Individual United Way agencies that already benefit from Goodrich contributions to the United Way Campaign. International organizations. Administrative Guidelines The Goodrich Foundation staff accepts and reviews grant requests quarterly. Deadlines for proposals are February 1 and August 1. Decisions are made by the members of the Goodrich Foundation Board of Trustees. Proposals funded in one year are not always assured of future funding. Because the Foundation receives far more proposals than it can possibly support, many requests are declined and every effort is made to provide written notification of the Foundation's decision promptly. We require the following supporting documentation: current IRS determination letter proving 501 c (3) status, current year program budget, annual report or current year financial statements and a contact list of key staff and board members.
