AgustaWestland Selects Goodrich Rescue Hoists for AW139 Helicopters
AgustaWestland has selected Goodrich Corporation to supply rescue hoists for AW139 helicopters to be used by Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom for maritime search and rescue operations. According to Bob Strickland, European Business Development Manager for Goodrich's hoist and winch team, “We are delighted to be chosen as AgustaWestland’s rescue hoist supplier for the AW139. Maritime search and rescue operators for Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom will be the first to receive our new high performance, externally-mounted dual DC-electric rescue hoists. The new systems offer the latest in rescue hoist technology including cable offset detection; higher electromagnetic interference standards compliance; a fast rope attachment which can be used in insertion and extraction operations; and our Category One translating drum technology.” Goodrich's hoist and winch team produces both traditional level wind and industry-unique translating drum cable management systems. Because the mission capabilities of the design concepts are so unique, Goodrich distinguishes between the technologies by category distinctions - translating drum as Category One and the traditional level wind as Category Two. Goodrich is the only manufacturer of the Category One technology in the world. The hoist and winch team is part of Goodrich Sensors and Integrated Systems headquartered in Burnsville, Minn. Sensors and Integrated Systems was earlier selected to supply the Rotorblade Ice Protection System (RIPS) for the AW139. The system helps to keep the aircraft’s main and tail rotorblades ice-free during extreme operating conditions by using Goodrich’s DuraTherm™ electro thermal deicing mat technology. Sensors and Integrated Systems provides a broad range of systems to the aerospace industry worldwide including air data sensors and SmartProbe™ systems, electronic flight bag systems, security and surveillance systems, fuel measurement and management systems, health and usage management systems, ice detection and protection systems, and rescue hoists and cargo winches. Goodrich Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is a global supplier of systems and services to aerospace, defense and homeland security markets.
