Goodrich Celebrates the U. S. Air Force???s 60th Anniversary
This week Goodrich Corporation will be present at the U.S. Air Force Association’s Air and Space Technology Conference and Expo in Washington D.C. Goodrich will be marking the occasion to celebrate its long-standing commitment and contribution to the U.S. Air Force as it celebrates its 60th Anniversary. Goodrich has been right alongside the U.S. Air Force providing products and systems that keep its fleet in the skies, and its pilots safe, since it took its first flight. Goodrich innovations fly on board U.S. Air Force aircraft ranging from: Boeing’s C-17 airlifter; to Northrop Grumman’s RQ-4 Global Hawk(R) UAV; Lockheed Martin’s F-22 and F-35 Lightning II fighter jets, as well as the C-5, one of the world’s largest airlifters, and the C-130J tactical airlifter; and on Bell-Boeing’s V-22 tilt rotor. Goodrich continually moves forward with technological advances on products and systems that support the Air Force fleet. For example, over the past three decades, Goodrich’s ACES series ejection seats have been on board the following Air Force aircraft: A-10; B-1; B-2; F-15; F-16; F-22; and F-117. Furthermore, innovations also include the Full Authority Digital Engine Control system or “FADEC,” comprised of: a main fuel pump; dual channel fuel metering and bleed control; and dual channel Digital Electronic Control Unit. Another great acknowledgement of Goodrich’s role of creating products and systems in collaboration with the Air Force is Goodrich’s ISR systems involvement with the U-2 platform for the past 50 years. Other Goodrich products and systems on board the fleet range from: ice detection and protection systems; utility actuation; air data systems; sensors; hoists and winches; wheels and brakes; fuel measurement and management systems; exterior lighting; and landing gear -- including the F-35 Lightning II landing gear. According to Bill Lennox, Goodrich’s Senior Vice President, Washington, “We are proud of our team’s long-standing contribution to the men and women of the U.S. Air Force and recognize that the 60th anniversary of this relationship is a milestone that also marks a new beginning for us all. We are excited to see the advances in technology within our company and the overall U.S. Air Force fleet including the F-35 Lightning II.” Goodrich has a broad range of technologies on board the F-35 Lightning II. As the landing systems integrator, the company is responsible for the design, manufacturing and testing of unique landing systems for the Conventional Take-off and Landing (CTOL) variant of the aircraft to be used by the U.S. Air Force. The work is being performed in Cleveland, OH. Furthermore, Goodrich is supplying the weapons bay door drive system including its electronic control; as well as the fuel quantity gauging components and their associated wiring harnesses; the utility actuators; and the ice detection system for all three variants. The aircraft is a fifth generation, supersonic, stealth fighter designed to replace a wide range of aircraft, including F/A-18s, F-16s, A-10s and Harriers.
