The Occupational Health Departments at Goodrich’s Engine Control & Electrical Power Systems’ sites developed a very clear philosophy of care – we support the business by delivering health care to the highest standard while addressing individual needs. They provide evidence-based care, advice and education in a non-judgmental manner which is designed to encourage each individual to achieve their own optimum level of well-being in the workplace.

Working on the basis that prevention is better than cure, one of the team’s biggest successes has been in the area of stress management. They have moved away from the traditional treatment-orientated role of the occupational health nurse and developed more proactive systems such as health surveillance.

Since joining the team in August 2006, Paul Hinckley, Occupational Health Advisor, has been impressed with the cohesion within the team and the proactive approach to managing occupational health. The team was successful in launching a newsletter – “Your Health”– a useful tool in communicating general strategy and specific health promotion projects for all staff. Although they are specialist nurses, working within a specialist department of the EHS team, they share one goal – we are helping to build top quality engine control systems by keeping the workforce happy, healthy and in the work environment.
