Goodrich Aerostructures is a fully self-contained development center tailored to the design, analysis and testing of its core products. Capabilities that are similar to an airframe developer and extend into qualification, certification and maintenance of all products.
Product design is managed through our proprietary product management approach called Lean Product Development, combining the customer’s voice with our best-practice design methods to deliver the best possible product. Design is fully digital using state-of-the-art 3D modeling. The digital master data flows throughout the process to build tools, inspect for quality and prove airworthiness of the design in support of aircraft certification.
To support design development, Goodrich Aerostructures has developed a full analysis capability that extends beyond simple methods. Aerostructures capabilities include stress, aerodynamic, thermodynamic, damage tolerance, acoustic, and dynamic analysis for both metallic and non-metallic materials. Significant expertise in design and analysis of hot structures and in high-noise and sonic environments are examples of our unique capabilities.
To support design development and certification, we have an extensive test lab capability which includes some capabilities found only at a few aircraft prime contractors. Lab capabilities include large-scale structural testing at the component level, mechanical testing at the sub-component and specimen levels, airflow model testing, certification fire testing and lightning strike testing, acoustic panel performance testing, and sonic fatigue testing of panels to 167db and 1700 degrees. The lab has full capability to install instrumentation for data measurement of the test methods mentioned above.
