After the war, Benjamin set up a licensing agreement with Charles Goodyear. In 1870 he founded BF Goodrich and established the first rubber company west of the Allegheny Mountains, leading to Akron, Ohio becoming the rubber capital of the world.The very first Goodrich product was a cotton-covered fire hose.


As BF Goodrich, the company became the largest tire and rubber manufacturer in the world.
